IRC Rapid Response - US/Mexico Border Crisis

Unprecedented levels of violence and insecurity in Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador—and elsewhere—are forcing a record number of families to seek safety, and for some, undertake a dangerous journey through Mexico to seek asylum in the United States. The IRC is answering the call, providing emergency aid to asylum seekers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week—and scaling up our work on all fronts.

In the U.S. we are providing food, water, clothing, medical assistance, legal counseling, transportation assistance and emergency shelter to families after they have been released from federal custody.

In El Salvador, we are responding at the root of the crisis delivering emergency cash assistance and guiding people to safety, shelter and basic services.

In Mexican border towns, we are launching programs to strengthen services for women who have experienced violence.
