Taronga has set up a dedicated fund for our Wildlife Crisis appeal, ensuring 100% of donated funds go directly to our recovery efforts for wildlife impacted by fire and the ongoing drought.
Bushfires, combined with the ongoing long-term drought, have decimated already fragile animal populations.
Taronga's immediate emergency response:
- Providing emergency shelter and expert veterinary care for injured and displaced wildlife including koalas rescued by our partner Science for Wildlife before fire went through their region at Kanangra-Boyd National Park
- Deploying staff into the field to assist with critical care and recovery of wildlife at triage centres
- Treating an unprecedented number of heat, fire and drought impacted wildlife in our two Wildlife Hospitals
- In-situ emergency recovery of Platypus from Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, where the combined impact of prolonged dry conditions and water reductions due to bush fires had put them at severe risk.
Taronga's long-term activity:
Recovery programs will be essential to the long-term survival or many of the species impacted by the fires. Taronga is initiating multiple long-term recovery (breed-to-release) programs for many of the species impacted by the fires.
Taronga has proven experience in caring for and releasing a broad range of mammals, reptiles, birds and amphibians, bringing them back from the brink of extinction.
A future without wildlife is not an option.
Thank you for supporting Taronga Conservation Society Australia.
