UPDATE 7/1/26:
As search and rescue efforts continue in the communities hardest hit by the earthquakes, Mercy Corps is working with local partners to address the most urgent needs emerging for affected families.
We are currently working with our local partner Superatec to provide WASH kits and safe-space supplies for 200 children.
Our partners report that access to safe shelter and accommodation is the most pressing challenge for people who have lost their homes—and it's where we are focusing our immediate response.
We anticipate that Miranda will absorb many people displaced by this crisis, and we are positioning ourselves to support both immediate needs and longer-term recovery alongside our local partners.

Devastating earthquakes struck Venezuela on June 24, 2026
Across communities including the capital Caracas, families are now facing loss, injury, and uncertainty after two major quakes caused widespread devastation.
At least 164 people have died and hundreds more are injured, with numbers expected to significantly climb as search efforts continue.
Mercy Corps has a strong track record of humanitarian programming in Venezuela and across the region and our regional colleagues are actively assessing the situation.
Mercy Corps’ response will likely focus on basic needs, including:
- provision of cash,
- food and nutrition,
- non-food items,
- water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) and,
- support to community health facilities which have sustained damage.
