Rescue Gifts: Help Families Fleeing Crisis Rebuild Their Lives

/ INTERNATIONAL RESCUE COMMITTEE INC

Around the world more families have been forced to flee their homes by conflict and natural disaster than ever before on record. These families are facing a triple emergency: the rapid spread of COVID-19, conflict and displacement, and hunger.

Give a symbolic gift that provides real relief—a Rescue Gift from the International Rescue Committee (IRC).

By donating to the IRC in the amount of a suggested Rescue Gift, you could help deliver urgent medical care to injured children or ensure the safe passage of families escaping persecution. You could help newly resettled refugee families learn English as they make a fresh start in the U.S. You could create brighter futures through education for girls and boys living in conflict zones, or reunite children with their families separated amid the chaos of war.

Your compassionate support to the IRC can provide a gift that will change lives, such as:

COVID-19 Face Masks $20 | You can equip refugees and aid workers with face masks and other essential protective equipment — helping them to stay healthy and safe, while reducing the spread of COVID-19. Just $20 can provide protective masks for up to 10 people.

Safe Passage $36 | The IRC provides refugees with critical information on how to access medical care, asylum services, and what to do in case their family is separated. We also help to transport refugees safely to facilities such as hospitals or asylum centers. $36 can provide families with information and safe transportation while far from home.

Year of School $58 | Give a girl the opportunity of her life. When crisis forces families to make difficult decisions about schooling for their children, often it is young girls who are kept at home and denied a chance at a better life. $58 can supply the tuition, books and other supplies a girl needs to attend school for a year.

Warm Blankets $84 | When war or a natural disaster forces a family from home, a blanket can provide warmth and a sense of security in the most difficult of circumstances. $84 can provide 15 warm, soft blankets for refugee families who have lost everything in a crisis, like the war in Syria, helping them stay warm and get a better night’s sleep.

Clean Water $100 | When a crisis hits, the International Rescue Committee is there, supplying families with clean water and other emergency aid. Clean water and proper sanitation reduce the risk of deadly diseases in crowded environments, like the displacement camps in war-torn Syria. In 2019, the IRC provided 1,756,800 people with clean water infrastructure, helping to stop the spread of disease. $110 can help us build a water supply system for families who have fled conflict and war.

Community Health Worker Training $335 | Millions languish in crisis-stricken areas with very little access to health care. The world over, IRC-trained local health workers treat patients in their own communities for everything from eye infections to malaria, saving thousands of lives. A well-trained local health care worker can help a devastated community lay the foundation for its own health care system.

Mobile Medical Clinics $500 | In the most remote and hard-to-reach places in the world, the IRC sends mobile teams to provide medical care to children. Our teams navigate rocky terrain, mudslides and other treacherous conditions to reach children and treat them for malnutrition, cholera, and other life-threatening illnesses. We also screen children and help provide them preventative care. Without our mobile health clinics, many children in war-torn countries would not have access to health care. $500 can equip a mobile medical team with items such as scales, medical equipment, patient cards, tables and other essential items.

Emergency Classroom $1500 | For children fleeing war or disaster, a return to school is the key to their safety and critical to creating a better future. In many countries where we work, the IRC provides temporary schools for children uprooted from their homes and communities. These emergency classrooms, housed in tents, provide a safe space for children to learn, express themselves and bond with other children, many of whom have lost friends and family members. A warm classroom creates a foundation of learning that will help children and families successfully rebuild their lives.
