Every child has the right to a safe and healthy childhood, and every child deserves to reach their full potential. But across the globe, gender inequalities continue to present considerable challenges for women and girls.
While strides have been made to close the gender parity gap, today 98 million girls who should be in secondary school are not. Every year, 12 million girls are married before their 18th birthday. And more than 800 women die each day from preventable complications in pregnancy and childbirth.
To tackle the challenges facing women and girls, UNICEF is working around the world to advocate for their rights, to help meet their basic needs, and to expand the opportunities available to them.
