More than 3 million people have fled Venezuela over the past several years and are displaced in the region as the country’s social, economic and institutional systems have imploded. Unrest in Venezuela is growing and the UN estimates there will be 5.3 million Venezuelan refugees and migrants by the end of 2019. This is now the worst humanitarian crisis in the western hemisphere.
Mercy Corps is providing emergency cash to help Venezuelans in Colombia purchase food, water, hygiene supplies and other urgently needed items. We’re supporting people on the border, as well as in other areas of Colombia where we already provide assistance to vulnerable Colombians affected by conflict.
We’ve helped thousands of people since launching our Venezuela regional crisis response in Colombia last summer.
