Flash Flooding in Nepal: Help Support UNICEF’s Response

, UNICEF USA

On August 26, 2026, massive flooding swept through north-central Nepal near the Tibetan border. According to official reports, more than 150 people have died and over 400 are missing, including hundreds of foreign tourists.

A landslide reportedly triggered flooding of the Bhotekoshi River, causing widespread damage to villages, roads and hydropower projects. Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts in Bagmati province were among the worst affected. The floods have left families facing devastating loss, displacement and uncertainty.

UNICEF has been working in Nepal since 1964, advocating for children's rights and helping to strengthen the systems and services. UNICEF staff on the ground are already coordinating a response with the local government, focusing on health, food, and shelter as areas of immediate priority.

When severe flooding puts children and their families at risk, UNICEF works with partners to meet children's immediate needs. UNICEF stands ready to support the Government and partners to ensure children's safety, health and well-being as the response continues.

With your unrestricted support to UNICEF USA in emergencies like these:
• $1 could provide safe water for 1 child for more than 2 months

• $20 could provide a family with a tarpaulin for makeshift shelter

Thank you for supporting UNICEF USA. Your flexible support helps UNICEF provide vital aid to children worldwide and will be directed to the area of greatest need.
