URGENT: Pakistan Faces Biggest Floods in its History

by Mercy Corps

The recent spell of heavy rainfall over the last two weeks has triggered flash floods and landslides in Punjab, Pakistan, resulting in significant loss of lives, damage to property, and destruction of livelihoods:

-Nearly 175,000 people have been relocated or displaced since late June.

-4,700 houses destroyed or damaged

-Over 5,400 livestock lost

-234 bridges destroyed, and nearly 661km of roads affected

As the dangerous weather continues, humanitarian needs are escalating, increasing the risks for vulnerable communities in these hazard-prone regions.

Mercy Corps’ Response Plan:

Mercy Corps has launched an initial response to support 3,500 people with emergency food and other supplies. We prioritize those most vulnerable, and work with partners to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of aid. At this time, based on needs, we are prioritizing:

-Food packages and kits with kitchen and cooking items

-Clean drinking water

-Hygiene and dignity kits

-Emergency shelter (tents and other shelter supplies)

-Medicine and medical camps
