Australia Bushfire Emergency
With bushfires devastating communities and wildlife across Australia your help is needed.
About this Giving Opportunity
Bushfire Update: January 13, 2020
While conditions have eased in some parts of Australia more than 100 fires are still burning.
At least 27 people have lost their lives and over 2000 homes have been lost in New South Wales (NSW) alone. More than 8.4m hectares have been destroyed across the country.
The toll on Australian wildlife has been staggering. It's estimated a billion or more animals have been killed or injured, among them a great number of threatened species: Australia's Koala population has taken an extraordinary hit and could soon be listed as endangered.
Yet throughout the crisis, stirring evidence of the strength and determination of Australians continues to be everywhere apparent.
Over $900,000 AUD has been raised by Microsoft News readers around the world, money which goes directly to the communities that our firefighters - with so many volunteers among them - continue to protect with courage and skill.
Your continued generosity has a real impact.
By giving you will help:
- WIRES (NSW Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service Inc.), Australia's largest wildlife rescue organisation
