There are 13 million people over the age of 65 in the UK today. While many of these older people live happy and healthy lives, sadly millions don’t, with older people experiencing significant challenges on a daily basis. We know 2.1 million older people across the UK live below the poverty line, 1.5 million people over the age of 65 in England live with at least one unmet care need and 1.2 million say they are always or often lonely. With an ageing population, this is a situation that is set to get worse. Therefore, Independent Age’s vision is the society where older people can live their best lives. We focus our resources in the three critical areas of poverty, health and care and loneliness by doing this we maximise our impact and reach.
We deliver frontline support across the UK to older people through our national helpline, our network of committed volunteers, and our award winning information guides. We want a society where older people live the lives they choose and actively contribute to their communities.
